Clean, confortable, beautiful place.
Bottom line--fantastic value, unmatched views, and a perfect hideaway that avoids the high end tourism of neighbouring Positano. I stayed in the Saturno room for two nights which is apparently the largest Studio at the hotel. Check-in occurs at a different Hotel called Hotel Eden Rock which is in Positano. Once you check in a staff member will jump on a moped and lead you on a 10 to 20 minute drive up to Nocelle, which is 400 meters and 1800 steps separated from Positano. This is a small, quiet town perched in the mountains with absolutely stunning views of the Almalfi coast. The room is modern and feels like home, and the huge balcony overlooking the ocean is enough to make you cry. Very easy access to numerous hiking trails. This is the perfect hotel for honeymooners, couples, or just a couple of people who want an oasis of relaxation between stunning day long hikes in the mountains. Small general store and very good restaurant just up the footpath from the villa. Room cleaned daily. I loved this hotel and highly recommend it!
Nothing. This hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. However, if you want a normal hotel with lots of services and easy access to the attractions in Positano this is not the place for you. Nocelle is close to Positano on the Map, but the steps will take you 30 or 40 minutes to descend and double that to get back up. There is also a bus service but it only runs until about 10 at night. Much more of a holiday rental than a hotel, so again, if you want a hotel with services, good beach access, and proximity the restaurants and hotels of Positano this is not your place.
We absolutely loved our stay at Residence Villa Degli Dei - we were in the Room called Saturno. We picked the hotel due to proximity for Path of the Gods hike. Things we loved: (1) The view was incredible - beyond compare. We loved sitting on our balcony reading, having coffee, etc; (2) Right on the Path of the Gods hike - fabulous; (3) Hotel accepted our dog; (3) having a small kitchenette and well-stocked kitchenware to keep our own food; (4) the quiet, village of Nocelle (very, very small and quiet); (5) very clean and well appointed with large bathroom by European standards, and our room included a shower with multiple jets - much needed after our long hike; and (6) the nearby trattoria is one of the best meals I've had in Italy (and we live here); (7) very friendly locals who chatted with us. We loved the village - a quiet, mountain village that is incredibly beautiful. The whole feel of our weekend was peaceful and relaxing, and we were beyond pleased with the hotel. I hope we can return.
We don't have anything we did not like about the hotel; however, there are a few things guests should know about. (1) Nocelle is pedestrian only - cars are parked in a lot 10-15 walk away and includes stairs. We didn't know this and did not pack appropriately to minimize luggage and weight (but hotel had someone to help us with luggage - so nice!). (2) Positano is a long walk down (and then up) 1700-2000 stairs. There is a bus, but we went and waited (and waited - and it never showed up - we must have messed up the times). For us, we didn't care as we wanted a getaway, not a trip to Positano, but if you're trip is to Positano, stay in Positano. If you want a real getaway from crowds, noise, congestion, shops, stay in Nocelle. The village has no shops at all - there is one trattoria (fabulous) and one pizzeria (closed our entire visit), and one, very small produce store; (3) There is no internet access. Nocelle is a true getaway; (4) Hotel was not staffed in person. We called for any assistance needed. If you don't have a local cell and need assistance, that might be a problem; (5) if you're traveling with a dog, as we were, the town has a pack of roaming strays that are not nice. My husband had to fight off about three dogs, one of which was a German Shepherd. He was able to handle the situation, but I was terrified to take our dog out by myself after that. Hotel has a gated patio (yay!), and I did not venture past it with the dog unless my husband was with me; (6) Breakfast is not included, which is clearly indicated in hotel's description. If you're a breakfast person, make sure you bring food with you to cook in the kitchenette.
